Society Updates

Spring 2020 is our very first semester as an active club! Though we base ourselves at Sonoma State University, we proudly stand with organizations across the globe to further the advancement of marine conservation. Whether you are a Seawolf, an alumni, or an ocean lover, we welcome you with open arms to our society!

Humpback whale

The humpback is the mascot of our club, representing intelligence, freedom of expression and community. Often reaching 12-16 feet, this aquatic mammal is known for it's distinctive song, used to communicate within their pod.

Bottlenose dolphin

Known for their incredibly social nature, these dolphins have long been revered as friends to mankind. According to Sea Shepherd, the punishment for the injury or killing of a dolphin in the Roman Empire was death, as the animals commonly assisted sailors at sea.

Orca whale

Orcas, commonly known as 'killer whales' are a type of toothed whale. Unfortunately, they are among the most widely used for human entertainment, and exploited for their intellect. Their pods are matrilineal- and are shown to be some of the most dependable families on the planet.
The world is a massive place, and the oceans are widely unexplored. But the respect for this beautiful natural resource is limited among our fellow humans. From the dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan to the poaching of thousands of whales from a protected sanctuary in the Antarctic, the threat to a fellow species is severe. Our goal is to spread awareness of events taking place and those that have happened previously to assist in the safeguarding of our oceans and its occupants.

OUR GOAL

Our oceans are polluted, countries are exploiting its inhabitants, and the time for acceptance is over.

First Let's

Gather
We are stronger as a whole. In solidarity with the animals we strive to protect, we hope to inspire a pod of our own that is proud to be a group and one that is passionate about each other and our overall cause.

Now let's

Conserve
Conservation is not just a single being. It is a network of strengths that are utilized towards a common goal. Whether your style is working from home or actively protesting, there is a place for you within our society.

IT'S UP TO US to

Change
We can talk about change until our planet is dead. The time for talking and casual debate is over. Actions speak much louder than words, and when we are protecting something without a voice of its own, those actions become even more critical.
